Passing of Ronald Beckoff

Ronald J. Bekoff, a stalwart Nassau County prosecutor from the late 60’s to the early 70’s, before beginning a near 50 year career as one of the leading criminal defense attorney’s in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, has passed after a short illness, at the age of 83.

Hession & Bekoff were known as a go to firm for the most serious of offenses, working from their well known Roslyn Road office until 2004. Ronnie’s late partner, Tom Hession, worked with him until his retirement in 2014.

There was no criminal case Ronnie couldn’t handle, including dozens of homicides and major felonies. His ability to listen to his clients, analyze a case, spot an issue and then use it to either negotiate the best possible disposition or prepare for litigation, was second to none. He also built a loyal client list, with a special connection to the community of Hempstead, where he grew up and went to High School before moving on to college at The University of Toledo and Brooklyn Law School.

Ronnie’s ice cream container collection, as well as his love for all sports, including The Mets, Jets and Islanders, were always a conversation in chambers or at the bench. His personality left lasting impressions on all prosecutors, defense attorney’s, judges and jurors.

He is survived by his love, his wife Carolyn, his son Steven, daughter Allyson, their spouses and two amazing grandchildren.
